Experiential Learning Day and A Great Week of Sports

Hello Readers!

Today was Experiential Learning Day here at Albertus Magnus College! It was a great day because there were a lot of great presentations being put on by students. The presentation I was involved in was the Student Alumni Association presentation. We discussed the organization was all about and how and why we decided to be in SAA. Doing this presentation was a great way to share our experiences and let people know what our role is on campus. We run such events as "Project Gratitude" and the dunk tank at Fall Fest. It is a lot of fun to be involved in an organization that puts on the fun events that we have. My favorite event, by far, is the dunk tank just because it is a great way to raise money for the organization while "dunking" a professor, faculty member, or fellow student. If anyone is interested in joining SAA, please contact Me at rckeidel@albertus.edu or you can see either Stefanie Seslar in Mohun Hall or Corey Brushett in Aquinas Room 303.

In other Albertus news, the softball team won their doubleheader in Brooklyn on Sunday, March 23rd, improving their overall record to 6-4. Both Shyleen Ortiz and Brianna Longley pitched great games. .The Falcon also had offensive support from Carli Matrisian, Brittney Urciuoli, Amanda Jessey and Alyssa Puccilli. It was an outstanding effort by all. The men's lacrosse team also picked up their first GNAC win against Anna Maria, leaving the Falcons with an overall 2-3 record. Some standout players were Greg Buck, Mike Choiniere, and Adam Earl. The Falcons will have their next GNAC game against Mount Ida on March 29th. The men's baseball team will be playing a doubleheader against Coast Guard on March 27th. The first game is at 2:30 pm and the second game is at 5:00 pm.

It's Spring Time!

Hello Readers!

It is finally spring! Spring is by far my favorite time of the year. The weather gets warmer and the sun stays out longer. Spring also means that there are more sports in season! Albertus has been extremely busy with athletics. The Men's Lacrosse team won their first game in program history on March 20th, 2014. It was an exciting win for them as they beat Lyndon State 26-13 at home. Hopefully this win will keep their momentum as they face off against Norwich on March 22nd at 1:00 pm up on the turf field here at Albertus Magnus. The Women's Lacrosse team has lost their two previous games but they are looking forward to facing Simmons on March 22nd at 1:00 pm. The softball team has been playing well also. The lady Falcons are 4-4 on the year. Everyone on the team has been working hard. They take on Brooklyn on March 23rd at 12:00 pm and then again at 2:00 pm.

Since it is the end of March, that only means one thing; that the school year is almost over! It is scary to think that I am going to be a senior next year. Time has flown by since my freshman year. I have had a lot of great times here at Albertus over the past couple of years. I have met a lot of great people here, and I am lucky to call some of them my best friends. I am actually preparing to take my LSAT exam in October. It is going to be extremely hard but I am excited about the opportunities that are ahead. I also began to pick out the classes I am taking for next semester. The class I am interested in the most is about the American presidency with Dr. Imholt. It is going to be a tough semester but I am more than willing to work hard in order to obtain a good GPA.

Spring Break!

Hello Readers!

I hope everyone is having a fantastic Spring Break! I know that there has been a lot going on with the athletic teams at Albertus Magnus College. The Men's Basketball team has made it to the third round of the NCAA "Sweet 16", which is the first time in program history. The game will be held at the University of Mary Washington in Fredericksburg, Virginia. This is an outstanding accomplishment for the team. The third round game will be played on Friday March 14th against Williams College which is ranked 9th in the country. The Falcons are ranked 13th nationally. This will be a great game for the Falcons because if they win, they move on to the "Elite Eight." I am very proud to be able to say I know most members of the basketball team. They have worked extremely hard for this opportunity and I hope they win the whole tournament!

In other Falcon athletic news, the baseball team has been doing well on their Spring trip in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. The team earned their first win with the pitching of their number 1 starter, Michael Barillaro. The Falcons won 9-4 and had a lot of offense throughout the game. Barillaro earned his 1st win of the season. A lot of other players have been doing a lot to help support the Falcons such as Anthony Pellegrino, Patrick Dornfried and Zachary Sokolis. They all have contributed to the win. The falcons play their next game on March 14th at Salisbury in Maryland.

Spring Break Is Finally Here

Hello Everyone!

Spring break has arrived! I am so grateful that spring break is finally here. I need the down time, even though I still have a lot of school work that I will need to do at home. On Wednesday March 5th, I had my Constitutional law midterm. I feel pretty confident that I did well on it. It was pretty tough but in the end, I think that I can pull off an A-/B+. This spring break is going to be exciting. I am going to be visiting New York Law School, located in Manhattan. New York Law School is my number one choice for law school. I really hope I do well on the LSAT in order to attend there. It will be a great experience going to school in Manhattan. It is going to be fun (and confusing) to have to take the train from my home on Long Island into Manhattan everyday. Especially since when I am in Penn Station, I have to catch the right Subway to go downtown.

Even though spring break is going to go by quickly (because breaks always do), I will be ready to finish up the rest of my junior year. I am very excited for it to be the summer time. This cold weather is getting brutal. The thing I am looking forward to the most this break is that it is supposed to be 40 degrees this weekend; that's how bad this cold is. I hope everyone has a healthy and safe break!

We Are GNAC Champs!

Hello Readers!

On Saturday March 1st, the Albertus Magnus College Men's Basketball team won the GNAC championship! This intense game was played here, at "The Nest." The Falcons won against St. Joseph's of Maine by the score of 84-49. Leading the Falcons with scoring in the game is Darius Watson with 21 points. Watson has been averaging a team high, 21.9 points per game this season. Second in Falcons scoring is James Jennings who scored 16 points. The game was very electric. The attendance was counted at 856 people. The gym was loud as the fans showed their immense support for their Falcons. This is the Falcons' third straight GNAC title.

Head Coach Mitch Oliver has done an outstanding job coaching. He is definitely one of, if not, the best coach in the GNAC. Overall, the men's basketball team has done an incredible job this year. The Falcons are now ranked 13th in the country for division III basketball. This is the best ranking in Albertus Magnus College basketball history. They will take on WPI on Friday March 7th at 5:30 pm at Purchase College for the first round of the NCAA tournament. I would like to personally congratulate Head Coach Mitch Oliver , his staff and all of the basketball players on their accomplishments.
