Great Weekend At Albertus

Hello Readers!

It has been a very exciting weekend here at Albertus Magnus College! On Saturday, April 12th it was Accepted Student Reception for incoming freshman. It was such a great experience for myself because I was able to give tours to families and get to know the accepted students that are thinking about attending Albertus. The event was successful due to the wonderful Admission team headed by Nilvio Perez, the Director of Admission. Everyone did a great job preparing and putting forth numerous hours of extra work in order for this event to be such a success. Below is a picture of the front of the TAG as it did on Accepted Student Reception.

On Friday April 11th, I won $100 from the Albertus@Night event "Financial Football." I had so much fun at this event. Financial Football was a program on the computer in which the contestant had to answer questions relating to financial responsibility and what to do when in financial doubt. It was a great program to attend because it was a lot of fun. Melissa DeLucia, Director of Experiential Learning and the Center for Teaching and Learning Excellence, did a fantastic job orchestrating this event.

Is it Summer Yet?

Hello Readers!

It has been another busy week here at Albertus as students prepare for finals and end of the year projects. This is definitely my favorite part of the year. The weather gets nice and school is so close to being over. I cannot wait for the fun of summer to kick in, even though I will be working full time as well as taking an LSAT prep class to help prepare for the LSAT exam in October. I am very excited but also very anxious to take this exam. This one test tells me what law school I can go to as well as how well my skills are. I am working full time at a New York based law firm, Abrams Fensterman in Lake Success, NY which is located on Long Island. I am very excited for this opportunity as it will allow me to get a "taste" of what it is like to work at one of the top law firms not only in New York but in the United States.

This week at Albertus is the "National Money Smart" week. It is a week long session that helps young consumers, such as college students, make smart choices in their personal finances. On April 9th in the Behan Community Room, David Hinchey of Wepawaug-Flagg Federal Credit Union presented on what college students should look out for financially. Mr. Hinchey discussed how to treat a credit card and how important it is to pay off the credit cards in full, if you are able to. On Friday April 11th, there will be an Albertus@Night event, Financial Football, in the Pub which starts at 9:00pm. If you have any questions about this weeks events, please contact Melissa DeLucia.

Who Wants to Be A Tour Guide?

Hello Readers!

It was an exciting weekend for me. I went home to celebrate my mother's birthday on Friday and then on Saturday I went to a Mets game. The Mets won in great fashion-Ike Davis hit a grand slam to win the ball game in the bottom of the 9th inning. It was extremely exciting to be able to see the Mets win that way. Also on Saturday was the Medieval Times Albertus@Night event hosted by the Resident Assistants. It was a great event. Contestants were competing in games such as cornhole toss, twister,  noodle fighting and the last game was where the contestant had to fill a balloon with air and then knock as many cups as they can off of a table. The winner was Earl McCoy, a member of the men's soccer team as well as a student tour guide. Below, Earl McCoy shows off his crown as he was crowned king because he won the event.

Last week as lead tour guides, Sharinna Luna and I hosted a tour guide information table in Bree Common for any students that are interested in becoming tour guides. We had a great turn out. We received several new applications which is great so we can add some new tour guides for when the seniors graduate in May. If anyone is interested in becoming a tour guide, please see Sharinna or myself. It is a great opportunity to make money while staying on campus so you do not need a car to travel. Below is a picture of Sharinna and I recruiting tour guides.

Hatch Bash and Business Etiquette

Hello Everyone!

This has been such a great couple of days. On Wednesday, April 2nd, was Frankie's Hatch Bash held at the turf field here at Albertus Magnus College. It was a great success! The Student Alumni Association had a wonderful day planned for the students. There were plenty of events to take part in and a raffle was there as well! Some events that were available to take part in were the tug o' war, ladder ball, and cornhole toss. You were also able to create posters to cheer on the men's lacrosse team while they were battling Lasell. A special shout out to Leanna Velez who organized this event and she was also the mastermind behind it. It was a great job done by all who participated!

On Thursday April 3rd, Albertus had its 4th annual Business Etiquette dinner at Cascade in Hamden, CT. The etiquette dinner was led by etiquette expert Robert Shutt. He was a great, funny and personable man. He taught everyone that attended a lot of etiquette that they have never known before. From a personable standpoint, I am the type of person that inhales food when they are hungry. Mr. Shutt discussed the importance of taking your time eating. He talked about how you should eat at the pace of everyone else at the table. This is because you don't want to finish too quickly so you are just sitting there and you do not want to eat too slowly so you are having people sit at the table waiting for you. Overall, I had a great time and Mr. Shutt did a wonderful job. He definitely improved my business etiquette.

Hatch Bash at Albertus

Good Day Readers!

It is been an interesting week so far here at Albertus. I feels like it should be Friday but it is only Tuesday. This week has been very busy. I have been doing papers left and right, making corrections on those papers then triple checking them to make sure they are the best paper I can do. I have been going to class, going to work study in the Admissions Office, doing tours, being an RA, and of course, blogging. Even though at times, I can be overwhelmed but in the end I like keeping myself busy. I hate just sitting around and doing nothing. I am the type of person that has to keep going and doing things. It is almost impossible for me to just sit and do nothing.

On Wednesday April 2nd, the Student Alumni Association will be making "Frankie's Hatch Bash" very interesting tomorrow! The Hatch Bash for Frankie the Falcon is to celebrate his birthday! This is going to be an extremely fun event. The Student Alumni Association will be hosting numerous events tomorrow at Celentano Field here at Albertus Magnus College. There is going to be tug-of-war, sack races and a poster making station. Students are going to be able to swap other college t-shirts for an Albertus Magnus College fight song t-shirt! Please come up and show you Albertus spirit! This event is happening at 2:30. Hope to see you there!
